I was inspired to do this piece when asked by a friend to display for an upcoming event in Washington DC. The event, a Men’s Appreciation Brunch, is one of Obama’s faith based initiatives for men being men and taking responsibility in our homes and communities. The idea of this piece are men… Could be …fathers, grandfathers, god fathers, uncles, mentors taking the time to mentor and teach and open up the world to our youth. In the center you have someone reading to two boys. On the left you have someone pointing to the stars while the boys are reaching for them. On the right you have someone teaching a young man how to fish… based off of the Chinese proverb:

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.
